Indira Gandhi : The Visionary Who Was Loved By The People

Indira Gandhi was one of the most popular Prime Minister India has seen. Her ability to be able to take a tough stance on situations and help the country pull itself out of trouble multiple times has helped ignite her popularity over the years.

She is respected by almost all divisions of the Indian political sphere. From her time in information broadcasting minister she was regarded as one of the best leaders, India could see. Her entry to the political system happened unofficially when she helped her father (Jawaharlal Nehru) with hosting Delegates and important people from other foreign nations.

Being such a young and pragmatic woman she was seen by the masses as the most suitable person. Her popularity among the Indian masses is what led to her being appointed as the Information and broadcasting minister when Lal Bahadur Shastri held the office of Prime Minister of India.

The congress thought that it would be appropriate to have someone hold an office who is loved by the people and is also kin of the late Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. The videos of Indira Gandhi where she is seen dealing with problems with calm and ease puts respect for her in everyone’s hearts.

After working in the ministry she was taken to be the best candidate who had a pan India appeal to fill in the post of Prime Minister after Lal Bahadur Shastri.  After coming to the office she was not intimidated, by other politicians who wanted to intimidate her.

As she did not have much political experience she was seen by some as not an effective leader. After coming to the office she took many major decisions that were needed to consolidate India, these include- abolishing privy purses which were given to the princely states, privatization of banks, and other measures.

This angered the syndicate as they had vested interests and thought they could control Indira Gandhi but she did not get intimidated by them. Some of the quotes by Indira Gandhi shows us what a formidable leader she was. One of her quotes was:

“Even if I die for the services of the nation, I shall be proud of it. Every drop of my blood, am sure, will contribute to the growth of this nation and make it strong and dynamic.”

She took decisive action be it on the insurgency in the northeast or the falling currency rates. All actions taken by her were done seeing the future of India. She was not afraid to do anything which would boost the position of India in the world. When she saw that the decisions made by her for financial; stability were not being implemented she took it upon herself to implement those, she removed the finance minister and took that ministry under her direct control for more efficiency.

The quotes by Indira Gandhi and the videos of Indira Gandhi shows us that she was a visionary who helped set India on course for financial stability and made India be more self-reliant.
