Indira- a New Era Begins




Indira Gandhi, daughter of Jawahar Lal Nehru and Kamla Nehru, was born in 1917. Motilal Nehru, Grandfather of Indira Gandhi on her birth said that her Grand daughter would lead over the country some day. She became Prime Minister of India in 1966 and was named as Iron Lady of India because of her strict behaviour.Her iron-fisted approach in dealing with conflicts with the neighbouring countries and strong foreign policy made her one of the most-admired figure among world leaders.The folowing video explains the early days of Indira Gandhi and her views and perception towards politics.

Indira Priyadarshini Gandhi Indira Priyadarshini Gandhi ( The Iron Lady ) (born November 19, 1917 – 31 October 1984) was the Prime Minister of the India for three consecutive terms from 1966 to 1977 and for a fourth term from 1980 until her assassination in 1984. Born on in an illustrious family, she was perhaps destined for an illustrious political career. Smt. Indira Gandhi was the daughter of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru. She attended the University of Oxford in Britain, where she studied history, political science and economics. As the Prime Minister of India, Smt. Indira Gandhi was well known for her political ruthlessness and extraordinary centralization of power.
